Pre-Skills Centre (± AGES 4-6)

Level PPP – P

4 – 6 Years of Age (±2)

Our Pre-Skills Centre caters for vulnerable pre-schoolers, presenting with a general developmental delay (also called global developmental delay). Our aim is to assist learners with general neuro-developmental growth, as well as sensory perceptual integration as this is a prime developmental phase.

This Centre has three main levels (Level PPP, PP and  P) and learners are placed according to their developmental age rather than their chronological age.

4 – 6 Years of Age (±2)

Learners who struggle in mainstream schooling.

Speech and Language Delay
Fine & Gross Motor Delay
Neuro-Developmental Delay

Intellectual challenges within our intake criteria.

Learners in the Pre-Skills Centre are typically between the ages of 4 and 6 / (8) years. Due to possible developmental delays, we allow for a 2 year developmental gap and are happy to accommodate learners up to the age of 8 in this Centre.

Through extensive observation and sensitive assessment we determine suitable placement in our flexible structure. Learners in need of a more specialised programme, with less formal academic work and more therapeutic input are placed in this Centre.

Early identification is of vital importance. Learners must be potty trained and capable of basic basic self-care.

Pre-Skills Programme

TheraEd
Pre-Language & Pre-Numeracy
Sensorial Programme
Perceptual Programme
Life & Social Skills
Explorative Science
Individualised Neuro-Developmental Programme

Our focus is to create an enriched sensory perceptual environment. Optimal Neuro-Development and Learning Readiness are our main goals with 15 minute activity program intervals throughout the day presented by trained staff. These activities are specifically selected for the learner according to their Individual Development Map (iMap). Age appropriate activities are combined with primitive reflex integration.

PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) is used to assist learners to manage themselves and teach time, sequence & routine. Social interaction is an integral part of the programme. Our internally designed Integrated Theme Based Curriculum allows learners to learn about their world, bodies, emotions & friends via fun/interactive brain-based activities.

Programme Weight

Therapy: 60%
Academic: 20%
Life Skills: 20%

Ideally 60% of our day will be spent on therapy/sensory-motor development.

Academic activities will consist of pre-literacy and numeracy which takes up 20% of our day.

An early start in life skills (20%) equips learners for life.
